Microsoft sues over 'click laundering' fraud

Microsoft filed a lawsuit this week accusing a Web site of engaging in a new type of click fraud called "click laundering" by getting credit for clicks on ads that were made by botnets or unsuspecting users on a site set up for that purpose.
The lawsuit names RedOrbit, a science news aggregator, as defendant, while a second suit names John Does to cover multiple unknown defendants who allegedly participated in click laundering on Microsoft's AdCenter network, Microsoft said in a statement.
To get around click fraud detection technologies, fraudsters are using so-called "parked" Web sites to launder the ad click traffic through, Richard Boscovich, a senior attorney in Microsoft's Digital Crimes Unit, said in an interview with CNET.
The traffic results from botnets of compromised personal computers that are programmed to click on the ads without the computer user knowing it. Or it can come from malware hiding on computers that hijacks the browser, taking the Web surfer to what looks like a legitimate search site, for example. So when the computer user clicks on what looks like a search result code that is hidden on the site, it registers as a click on an ad instead, Boscovich said.
RedOrbit President Eric Ralls denied the allegations.
"RedOrbit does not, nor has it ever, engaged, assisted in, or condoned click fraud," he said in a statement on Friday. "We are disappointed that Microsoft has made these completely baseless allegations and intend to defend against them vigorously."
Microsoft asked RedOrbit to help in a beta test of its PubCenter platform, and the site did so for about five months, beginning in September 2008, according to Ralls.
"An anomalous click spike occurred over a brief period of time in January 2009, and we immediately worked with Microsoft to identify the reasons for the occurrence, including providing them with complete access to our logs," he said. "At the time, Microsoft did not conclude that there was any suspicious activity on the part of RedOrbit, and we discontinued working with [Microsoft]."
More information about click laundering is available on the Microsoft on the Issues blog.

Facebook working on 'simple' privacy settings

news analysis After one of the most tumultuous months in its young history, Facebook is planning to announce features intended to offer its hundreds of millions of users simpler privacy choices.
The last few weeks have not been kind to the Internet's second most popular Web site, which has been pilloried by privacy activists and slammed by some members of Congress. The flap has spawned clever interactive graphics showing how Facebook has gradually exposed more user data, tools to fix your privacy settings, and reports of internal discord among employees who may fear that the negative attention would jeopardize a lucrative public stock offering.
A Facebook spokesman on Friday confirmed that the changes will arrive "shortly," without elaborating. "The messages we've received are pretty clear," Andrew Noyes said. "Users appreciate having precise and comprehensive controls, but want them to be simpler and easier to use. They also like the new programs we have rolled out, but want simple and easy ways to opt out of sharing personal information with applications and Web sites."
While the recent focus on Facebook started with its announcements in late April at the F8 developers conference, which included deeper connections with partner Web sites, concerns have been building for a long time. There was the outcry over the now-defunct Beacon advertising program, CEO Mark Zuckerberg's remarks last December about pushing users to disclose more, and brief eruptions, including Thursday's disclosure of Facebook sharing some data with advertisers, in possible violation of its privacy policy.
No wonder you're starting to see tips--including a CNET FAQ we published earlier Friday--on how to irrevocably delete your Facebook account. (Yes, there's even a Facebook group.)
The new controls, which could arrive as early as next week, will feature simpler and easier-to-use controls for users who care about them, while continuing to offer granular controls for those who want them as well, a company source said. No doubt The New York Times will redraw its helpful road map to Facebook's privacy options.
When the generally laissez-faire Economist writes an article saying regulators may be able to "justly" target Facebook, and The Wall Street Journal's Peggy Noonan warns that "when we lose our privacy, we lose some of our humanity," these are signs that Zuckerberg has lost the zeitgeist. So is the flood of money to the ephemeral idea of Diaspora. (Time magazine's cover story featuring an interview with Zuckerberg, on the other hand, was far more flattering.)
Some of these news clippings almost appear to have been copied and pasted from The Onion, which has been covering the issue in its own way. There was the Facebook phishing scam that snared a board member and a security hole that leaked some private messages. Then there's the October release of "The Social Network," starring Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake, which appears to be using a different name to keep the lawyers at bay.
The danger here lies, as it often does, in regulatory overreach. Sen. Charles Schumer, the New York Democrat, is demanding a federal investigation and the issuing of government "guidelines" on privacy disclosures. Like most members of Congress, Schumer is a lawyer-turned-lifelong-politician with no experience running a business; he's been on the taxpayers' payroll ever since being elected to the New York State Assembly at the age of 23.
If Facebook has made privacy missteps that harmed its users, existing law gives the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general ample authority to investigate and litigate. The lawyers staffing those agencies, hardly timid souls, have proven to be eager and willing to do just that.
And, if there's evidence of lawbreaking, no doubt class action lawyers will leap at the chance to enrich themselves at the expense of Facebook's owners and employees.
But to argue, as Schumer does, that the possibility of future harm demands immediate regulation would short-circuit the legislative process. At the very least, before rushing to pass final judgment, it may be worth waiting a week or so to see what Facebook actually does.

FTC asked to probe Street View privacy snafu

Posted by Ahmed on 8:55 AM
Two of Google's chief congressional critics on Wednesday called on federal regulators to investigate whether the search company's inadvertent collection of Street View Wi-Fi data violates the law.
In a letter to Federal Trade Commission Chairman Jon Leibowitz, they prod the agency to evaluate whether accidental capture of brief snippets of Wi-Fi traffic is an "unfair or deceptive act" that has harmed consumers.
On Friday, Google acknowledged that its Street View cars had unintentionally intercepted fragments of data from unencrypted Wi-Fi networks for periods of 200 milliseconds at a time. Google's blog post said it was code that should not have ended up in the final product, and that it was contacting regulators and deleting the data.
A Google representative on Wednesday declined to discuss details of any conversations with the FTC, instead saying: "We are working with the relevant authorities to answer their questions and concerns."
An FTC representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Google has posted a letter (PDF) from iSEC Partners, a San Francisco-based security-auditing firm, witnessing the physical destruction of four hard drives, with data from Street View cars from Ireland. The Irish Data Protection Authority had asked that those records be destroyed; the United Kingdom's government has made a similar request.
The letter to the FTC (PDF) was signed by Reps. Ed Markey, a Massachusetts Democrat, and Joe Barton, a Texas Republican.
Barton has assailed Google's purchase of DoubleClick on privacy grounds but supported efforts by the Bush administration to expand government surveillance.
Markey, on the other hand, has a history of attempting to regulate Internet companies' data collection practices, including proposing that Web sites delete information about visitors. He has also talked about introducing a broader privacy bill and grilled the now-defunct NebuAd company on privacy.

Google's Brin on Wi-Fi spying: 'We screwed up'

SAN FRANCISCO--Google co-founder Sergey Brin didn't mince words in addressing one of the worst privacy-related gaffes his company has ever committed.
"In short, let me just say it: we screwed up," Brin said in response to a question on Wednesday here at the Google I/O conference about the company's disclosure last week that it had been collecting personal Internet usage data through its Google Street View program. "I'm not going to make any excuses about it."
Google is facing a litany of complaints and possible government actions against its Street View program, following Friday's announcement. The data collection was inadvertent, and the actual data itself was very spotty, Google said, but privacy advocates looking for a reason to slam Google got a fastball down the middle of the plate with the revelation.
Brin addressed criticism that Google's famously laid-back culture isn't designed to prevent problems such as the current one. "First, we do have a lot of internal controls in place, but obviously, they didn't prevent this error from occurring. We are putting more internal controls in place," Brin said.
"Trust is very important to us, Brin said. "We're going to do everything we can to preserve that trust."

Cell conversations annoy you? There's a reason

Scientists think they've found the reason that overhearing cell phone conversations makes the average person's blood boil. It's because hearing half of a conversation takes more concentration and attention than hearing both sides of a talk, say Cornell University researchers.

According to this Reuters story, hearing half of a story is more difficult to tune out than a whole story. So if you ever wondered why you're so irked that you're hearing some guy on the bus gripe about a bad date, it's probably because you're trying to fill in the gaps for yourself (and you're also guessing incorrectly).
With Americans spending more than 2 trillion minutes on cell phones last year, according to the wireless trade association CTIA, there are infinitely more chances to get caught up in half of a conversation that you wouldn't want to hear given the choice.
The Cornell scientists did research with students that involved concentration exercises. Students made more errors guessing how a conversation would go when they heard just one side.

AT&T's new early-termination fee for the iPhone: $325

Posted by Ahmed on 8:51 AM
A word of warning to AT&T subscribers who would switch carriers when the company's iPhone exclusivity deal with Apple finally ends: The cost of doing so will soon rise--substantially. Come June 1, AT&T is raising its early-termination fee on smartphones to $325 from $175.
The increase comes amid speculation that AT&T's iPhone-exclusivity deal with Apple is nearing its end. But a company representative tells me it has "nothing to do with the iPhone or any other device."
iPhone (Credit: Corinne Schulze/CNET)
$325. That's a pretty steep increase from $175. Though to be fair, it's not quite as bad as the one already implemented by rival Verizon. In November, that carrier doubled its smartphone ETF from $175 to $350, a move AT&T was quick to cite as partial justification for its own decision.
And, indeed, the company is following in Verizon's footsteps here. Like its rival's ETF, AT&T's drops $10 per month for each month of a two-year contract. Which means that at the 23rd month of a two-year contract, AT&T subscribers must pay $95 to leave the carrier. The contract is nearly over, yet subscribers are obligated to pay nearly a third of the full ETF if they break it at that time.
Now it's true that ETF's were created as a means of recovering legitimate costs associated with subsidizing mobile phones. If AT&T is paying a $325 subsidy for the iPhone, the company should be able to recoup that money when customers break their contracts. But does it really stand to lose $95 if they do so in the 23rd month? Doesn't seem likely if those customers can walk away just a month later without consequence, taking their handsets with them.

Exclusive: Yahoo, Nokia to unveil 'Project Nike' deal

Posted by Ahmed on 8:49 AM
This week, Yahoo sent out an invite for a press conference in New York on Monday with a mysterioso tone:
It read, vaguely:
"Please join Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz for an exciting announcement about providing global consumers with rich online and mobile experiences, and bringing forward a new era in keeping consumers connected."
That's all it took to get BoomTown on the horn to find out what that meant.
And, according to sources, that will be a deal with Finland-based mobile phone giant Nokia to build Yahoo e-mail, search, and other applications and services into a range of its devices.
Greek goddess Nike (Credit: Theoi.com)
While the pair had once discussed Nokia making a Yahoo-centric phone, sources said that is unlikely to be part of this deal.
Such a partnership--code-named "Project Nike" after the Greek goddess of victory and not the sneaker--has been batted around for many years between the companies without result, even as Google and Apple have grabbed the spotlight and business in the exploding smartphone market.
Yahoo has had a range of mobile initiatives and has had many, mostly failed, partnerships with carriers and telecom makers.
But without its own phone or mobile operating system, such as Google's Android, the Internet giant is essentially nowhere in what has become the most important digital sector today.
Nokia, which makes more mobile devices--mostly "feature" phones, not smartphones--than any other company, has also struggled to keep up the lightning-fast pace of innovation and has been looking for ways to compete as the landscape shifts dramatically.
That's why the long-festering deal was placed again on the fast track, especially by Bartz, who has put a lot of emphasis of late on showing Yahoo to be more relevant and cutting-edge.
Thus, the Nokia deal is likely to be a splashy centerpiece of next week's investor day on Wednesday in Silicon Valley, which will feature Bartz and her senior management, including Americas EVP Hilary Schneider.
Schneider has played a lead role in the Nokia deal, which sources said closed two to three weeks ago.
Bartz will also be appearing at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in New York next week, a speaker addition that will be announced soon, where she is likely to discuss the deal.
Yahoo has been on a bit of a deal tear of late, purchasing social publishing start-up Associated Content for $90 million earlier this week.
And while the Nokia deal will likely garner a lot of attention when announced, execution will as usual be key in determining if this works, especially since both companies are now in a much weaker position.
"Recently, Nokia has offered devices that people don't want and Yahoo has launched mobile services that they don't want," said one person familiar with the talks. "Perhaps in working together, they will find a way to finally create some value."
Yahoo declined to comment, and Nokia has not responded to an e-mail I sent Thursday.

Don't go off-road in electric car made of bamboo

Posted by Ahmed on 8:47 AM
(Credit: Kinki Knives Industries)
It may look like a joke, but a group of companies in Japan is serious about selling an electric car made of traditional materials such as bamboo and paper.
The three-wheeled Meguru (Japanese for "to move") is more of an auto rickshaw than a car, and it's designed for use as a taxi. A driver sits in front, and one or two passengers sit in back on a couch.
Developed mainly by metalworking firm Yodogawa and blade maker Kinki Knives Industries in Osaka, the prototype was given distinctly Japanese styling with the help of Kyoto craftspeople.
Its frame is steel painted with vermilion lacquer, and it evokes the torii gates of Shinto shrines. The flooring is bamboo, and the folding fan doors are crafted from Japanese washi paper. At night, the interior lights glow through the paper doors, giving it a lantern-like appearance.
The Meguru's lithium ion battery takes two hours to charge on a household power supply, and it can travel about 25 miles on a charge. It has a top speed of about 25 mph, and it is registered as a road vehicle in Japan.
The firms plan to mass-produce the Meguru and sell it for less than $10,000. They're touting it as an example of the strength of smaller manufacturers in the Osaka region, which has been hit hard by the economic slump.
The Meguru probably wouldn't look out of place in Japanese cities like Kyoto and Nara, which have traditional neighborhoods as well as old-school rickshaws in the streets. The zero-emission ride will please those who care about the environment, and the paper and bamboo give it an air of old-world craftsmanship.
Just don't drive it off-road into a forest full of pandas.

Wastewater-to-fertilizer plant captures nutrients

Posted by Ahmed on 8:44 AM
Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies later this week will dedicate a system that converts wastewater from sewage-treatment plants into fertilizer while recycling valuable phosphorus and nitrogen.
On Thursday, the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) in Suffolk, Va., will host the official opening of the facility, the second commercial-scale plant to use Ostara's technology. Long-time clean water advocate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is an investor in the company through his involvement with VantagePoint Venture Partners, will be a speaker at the event.
Ostara's reactors isolates nutrients from wastewater at sewage treatment plants to make fertilizer.
Because of environmental regulations, some wastewater treatment plants separate nutrients using bacteria to prevent them from being discharged into waterways. Ostara's technology can be added to these plants to convert the separated wastewater into a sellable product called Crystal Green, explained Ostara CEO Phillip Abrary.
Instead of treating that wastewater with chemicals and disposing of the solids, the HRSD facility has installed three vessels that take in wastewater and mix it with the salt magnesium chloride. Water moves upward into the cone-shaped tank, called a fluidized bed reactor, which prevents the solid material from settling and causes crystals to form through a chemical reaction.
The white crystals are ammonium magnesium phosphate, which is sold as high-phosphate fertilizer pellets to nurseries, turf, and specialty agricultural companies. The technology, which can capture about 85 percent of the available nutrients, can also be used in plants where nutrient build-up is a problem, said Abrary.
In Virginia, these reactors will replace a process that relies on adding chemicals to the wastewater. The sale of fertilizer, handled by Ostara, will finance the sale of equipment and operations. Ostara's first facility in Oregon also purchased the equipment and projects a payback in five years, Abrary said.
The key to the technology, which was originally developed at the University of British Columbia, is the shape of the reactor, which allows the company to make crystals that can be sold as slow-release fertilizer, he said.
In addition to dealing with nutrient run-off, the technology helps preserve phosphorus, which is mined from Morocco, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and China, where the majority of reserves are found.
"Discharging nutrients is not a good thing and there are more and more regulations coming," Abrary said. "Phosphorus is a nonrenewable resource that's absolutely necessary. If you don't have phosphorus, you can't grow things."
The facility in Virginia will be able to produce about 500 tons of fertilizer product a year, which is a sliver of the 35 million tons of phosphates sold every year. Because the company's technology is a relatively efficient way to capture the nutrients in waste, Abrary said the company has a significant pipeline of projects under discussion, including one in Pennsylvania where Ostara would own and operate the facility itself.
"The technology is proven, the market believes that it works because it's a chemical process," he said. "The biggest barrier is that many customers are municipal organizations that just don't react as quickly as the private sector."

Google: A new consumer electronics power broker

Google I/O 2010
Six tech industry CEOs don't often appear in the same place at the same time. Google, the dominant search company of our time, has clout in consumer electronics as well.

SAN FRANCISCO--Could the long-awaited marriage of the television and the Web be blessed by a search company?
Google is at least going to make an attempt, unveiling the signature announcement of Google I/O 2010, Google TV, before a crowd of developers at the Moscone Center Thursday. While Google will need developer support to make Google TV happen, the message wasn't entirely aimed at them.
Instead, in convening a panel of some of the most important CEOs in the world of consumer electronics--Sony, Best Buy, and Intel, among others--Google declared its intention to shake up the world of consumer devices the same way it has disrupted countless other industries in its 12 years as an organization. Google is attempting to do what the PC and consumer electronics industries have tried--and failed--to do for years: bring the nearly unlimited content of the Web to the large-screen TV while preserving the tried-and-true television experience that has enraptured three generations of Americans.
If this effort succeeds, there will be a new power broker in consumer electronics. And Google will have found a way to move past its identity as The Search Company in order to focus on a future based around Web-connected consumer-oriented software.
It's far from a slam dunk: powerful entrenched industries tend to not like it when Google comes knocking on their door. And tech conference demos alone--especially buggy ones--do not sell a product. But after the failed attempts of the Wintel duopoly (remember that?) to accomplish this goal in the last decade, Google is pushing ahead with its own take on the problem at a time when people might be finally ready to listen.
So what is Google TV? Essentially, it's an Android-based operating system for televisions and set-top boxes that fulfills one of the key goals that eluded the PC industry years ago: seamless integration of Web content and cable or satellite content.
Intel and Microsoft wanted to put PCs in living rooms, attempting to dress them up to look like cable boxes or DVRs. However, people didn't want to buy another full-fledged PC simply to sit in their entertainment centers and drown out the movie with the sound of the cooling fan. And the Windows brand did not resonate with the consumer electronics set, who didn't want long boot times or PC weirdness when trying to fire up their favorite show.
Apple waded tentatively into these waters with Apple TV, providing a smaller and less obtrusive box for the living room but walling off the content experience to the iTunes Store and putting few resources behind the project. More recently, a host of other devices like Boxee, Roku, and Slingplayer have tried to deliver Internet content to the television, but they force the user to choose between "Internet mode" and "television mode," and it's amazing how reticent people are to hit a button to switch between input modes.
Google Eric Schmidt Vic Gundotra
Google CEO Eric Schmidt (right) and vice president of engineering Vic Gundotra think that if they play their cards right, they could be a player in consumer electronics.
(Credit: James Martin/CNET)
So could Google TV break this logjam? The promise is certainly there: offering bored TV viewers a better way to search for things that interest them seems like a winner. And layering the Internet over existing television is an idea that has shown some promise, in things like Yahoo's work on TV widgets.
There are more than a few challenges. For one, nobody has any idea what these TVs and set-top boxes will cost relative to existing devices. People might be convinced to pay some sort of premium for this experience, but how much? These are uncharted waters.
And how will Google's search technologies be implemented in this product? Mark Cuban, founder of Broadcast.com and HDNet, and avid NBA playoff spectator (as opposed to participant), nailed it when he said Thursday "the success of Google TV will come down to one thing...PageRank. Can you imagine the white hat and black hat SEO battles that will take place as video content providers try to get to the top of the TV Search Listings on Google TV?...How Google does its PageRank for this product will have a bigger impact on the success of the product in the TV market than anything else it does."
But aside from the questions about Google TV itself, the announcement once again reveals Google's limitless ambition. This is a company that honestly thinks it can provide better technology products and services than anyone else in the world.
People laughed when Google got into mobile operating systems, wondering how a search company could break into a market dominated by old hands like Nokia and RIM as well as new upstarts like Apple (which at least had the benefit of decades of world-class software development). That seems to have worked out well for Google: it's the second largest smartphone operating system supplier in the U.S. at the moment, behind RIM and ahead of Apple.
There are few companies that could have assembled a CEO roster like the one Google put together Thursday. Coordinating the schedules of six major consumer electronics and computer industry CEOs must have taken a huge effort behind the scenes, and they weren't even all in Las Vegas in January for CES. It was quite a list: Intel CEO Paul Otellini, Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer, Logitech CEO Jerry Quindlen, Dish Network CEO Charlie Ergen, Best Buy CEO Brian Dunn, and Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen.

Microgaming proves that lightning can strike twice with launch of Thunderstruck II

Posted by Ahmed on 8:36 AM
Microgaming (www.microgaming.com), the world’s largest provider of online gaming software, this week announces the launch of its new flagship game: Thunderstruck II, the sequel to the 2003 video slot classic, Thunderstruck.

Thunderstruck II is based on an innovative 5 reel, 243 ways to win concept. It hosts a range of benefits that include, Wilds and Expanding Wilds, Scatter action, four different Free Spins Bonuses, Multipliers ranging from 2x to 6x, and absorbing free games.

The game's epic theme centres around mystical Nordic gods and contains a visual feast of high quality graphics depicting Thor's hammer, longships, and Asgard, a rainbow city from the great Nordic sagas.

The real road to riches begins in the Great Hall of Spins where the chambers of the four great gods, Valkyrie, Loki, Odin and Thor, can be unlocked, one by one, when three or more of Thor's hammer symbols land anywhere on the reels. Each entry to this feature brings the player closer to unlocking the chambers of the other gods, who wield greater features and rewards. The first is inhabited by Valkyrie, the maiden of Valhalla, who delivers 10 retriggering Free Spins laced with a generous 5x Multiplier.

Next up is Loki, god of mischief, offering 15 Free Spins, with an animated burst of lightning energy if the Wild Magic feature triggers, transforming random symbols into additional Wilds.

Odin, ruler of Asgard, dwells in the next chamber, granting 20 Free Spins by sending out his ravens Huginn and Muninn, to fly into random symbols, converting these to 2x and 3x Wild Multipliers, and, 6x if both ravens land together.

The fourth and final type of major reward is bestowed by Thor, the mighty god of thunder himself. Thor brings 25 Free Spins to the player, accompanied by a massively entertaining, and rewarding, Rolling Reels feature at up to a 5x Multiplier.

The action doesn't stop there either; Microgaming has embedded a completely unique feature for online slots into the gameplay in the form of a player achievements structure, which has the capacity to remember returning players' past wins, allowing for cumulative pursuit of rewards. The achievements based concept empowers players to achieve "gold status", by winning the range of payouts of each symbol. This is reflected in the paytable; as players unlock each symbol their paytables will begin to turn gold, keeping track of winnings and striving for a full Gold paytable. The grand achievement is the unlocking of all the God’s Features and reaching the 20th trigger of the bonus, where players will obtain Gold Status in the Great Hall of Spins.

Mike Hebden, Head of Casino, Microgaming said: "Everyone knows the secret to a great sequel is to do things bigger and better, and that's just the approach we have adopted with Thunderstruck II. Thunderstruck is widely acknowledged as one of the most successful and entertaining video slots in the Microgaming stable, and we are thrilled to deliver an updated version of this iconic game to our operator network.

"The new game both retains and builds on the essential themes and graphic-quality of its predecessor, but we are also introducing some genuinely never-seen-before features that take the game to a new level of 'epic'. Thunderstruck has proved its strong appeal amongst a wide player demographic and we are convinced that the power of the Gods delivers yet another lightning gaming experience, the second time around."

MLM Business Opportunity - MLM Business Combined with the Perfect Marketing Strategy

Posted by Ahmed on 8:34 AM
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) May 13, 2010 -- Take the Tour!

MLM business opportunity rocks the USA, Canada and soon to be the entire world. The network marketing industry will never be the same thanks to a revolutionary new concept that makes this business model both affordable and doable for everyone involved. Few people realize just how lucrative the right MLM business can be but that is all about to change thanks to a new era that is being brought about by a little company out of Vacaville California.

The prosperity wellness family team is one of the largest fastest growing teams in this amazing new MLM business opportunity called GBG. GBG stands for guided by God and when you look at what this company is already as well as what it is poised to become, one must come to the conclusion that this company lives up to the name.

The foundation product - the GBG 10 in one liquid vitamin and mineral super formula...

The ground-floor, foundation product of GBG is a breakthrough that owes its debt to years of scientific research on the cutting edge of the latest technologies in the supplement industry.

GBG's 10 in one product is the reason that this company is poised to break records in the MLM industry. Unlike other products that are centered around MLM business models, the GBG products are affordable. GBG does not require that a person purchase multiple products in order to participate in a home-based business. When someone orders just one bottle of the GBG liquid vitamin, the home business, including website, landing pages, promotional tools and training are all 100% free. GBG is the MLM business that boasts unlimited residual income potential, as well as the ability to start generating immediate cash flow thanks to the generous fast start bonus paid out on every GBG product.

The reason the GBG business model is so revolutionary is because this product makes a real difference in the way that people feel and there is nothing to pay out-of-pocket of the distributor for the business, website or anything else. Once people try the GBG liquid vitamin they want to continue taking it.

As far as MLM business opportunities go, there is nothing that even comes close to what GBG has to offer. The average person can get into this business for as little as $29.97. This is the price of the foundation product, the GBG 10 in one liquid multi-formula. You may be thinking that a product price so affordably could not possibly pay enough to really count, but such conclusions would be to a person's own detriment. The GBG liquid vitamin pays $20 in fast start for every bottle sold. In many cases people will buy bottles for their entire family.

Another reason why GBG is unique as far as MLM business opportunities is thanks to the copyright a portion of the GBG pay plan, the power of pay points. Pay points make it possible for distributors to earn double, triple, quadruple or more pay on each individual throughout their entire organization. The concept of pay point is simple. As a GBG distributor you can earn on up to 30 levels of pay in the 2 x 30 forced matrix. Each person that you introduce to GBG after your first two qualifies you for another pay point that falls into your original matrix. Since it is a forced matrix, your pay point will fall under other positions that are already in your matrix. Each pay point also counts as an individual matrix that will pay you based upon your current qualifications.

If you are qualified at the highest level you will learn three dollars per products sold on every product throughout your entire organization through 10 levels. If you are qualified for multiple paid positions you can get paid more than once and even three times easily. Our website allows you to learn more about chatting with psychics online. I remember when I had my first psychic reading. I was about twenty two years old and I met up with a psychic medium. She told me that I was about to move to a distant place that I had no idea that I would ever move to. It was actually out of the country. I told myself, I hope that she is right because I want to learn more about my destiny.

As the months went by, I did move to England. I met up with a UK psychic that told me that I had a destiny in England. I had no idea that one day I would be in a place that would serve me well. This English psychic happened to be extremely clairvoyant. The psychic reading that she gave me was unbelievable. I felt that she knew me from the inside out. I said to myself, "She must have known me from a past life." I say this because she knew so much about me. She was able to tell me my favorite food and my favorite place to travel.

I was happy to also find out that I would be going back to the United States of America in the future. I knew that I was not destined to stay in England because all of my family and friends were living in the United States. However, our spirit guides have a funny way of showing us more about ourselves.

I think that when we find an answer in spirit, we should understand and realize that we have an obligation to do better for ourselves on a weekly and daily basis. I know that sometimes life can be a journey. We never know what is going to happen tomorrow. I trust in my psychic friends to build me along the way. Many times, a psychic advisor will tell me to look at my tarot cards. They speak the answer.

I have learned a lot about tarot cards over the years and how a tarot card reading can help you to grow. I think that everyone should experience tarot card advice at least once in their life. I was first introduced to a tarot card reader when I was just a young boy. I was fascinated by the colors and the designs of the cards. I told myself that I have to start learning more about tarot cards if I was to ever learn more about life. I share these experiences as well on my website. If you have your own tarot story to tell, then perhaps my website can be of assistance to you.

Tarot cards can help you in your love life or your career. If you are stuck right now and have no idea which way to go in your life, you can easily find direction by just asking your tarot cards for it. They will often spring some sort of a truth for you in some sort of way. I usually find many psychics on the internet that are looking to give me a free psychic reading. I think they offer me free advice so that they can show me their own unique talents and abilities. I always tell people to enjoy your life. Learn more about your spirituality through online readings and conversations that you can have with spiritual people. When you take yourself into another realm, you can learn more.

Spiritual energy is always created when you walk into a direction that fulfills your heart entirely. I personally love the fact that I can share my stories with you online. I love to talk about anything that is related to clairvoyance and astrology. In my opinion, you can experience everything in life that you need to learn more about. If you are searching for a way to advance your mental view of psychics, then I suggest that you look at our website. We are sure that you will find an article that relates to you personally. Five Ways to Keep Online Criminals at Bay

Posted by Ahmed on 8:27 AM
THE Web is a fount of information, a busy marketplace, a thriving social scene — and a den of criminal activity.
Criminals have found abundant opportunities to undertake stealthy attacks on ordinary Web users that can be hard to stop, experts say. Hackers are lacing Web sites — often legitimate ones — with so-called malware, which can silently infiltrate visiting PCs to steal sensitive personal information and then turn the computers into “zombies” that can be used to spew spam and more malware onto the Internet.
At one time, virus attacks were obvious to users, said Alan Paller, director of research at the SANS Institute, a training organization for computer security professionals. He explained that now, the attacks were more silent. “Now it’s much, much easier infecting trusted Web sites,” he said, “and getting your zombies that way.”
And there are myriad lures aimed at conning people into installing nefarious programs, buying fake antivirus software or turning over personal information that can be used in identity fraud.
“The Web opened up a lot more opportunities for attacking” computer users and making money, said Maxim Weinstein, executive director of StopBadware, a nonprofit consumer advocacy group that receives funding from Google, PayPal, Mozilla and others.
Google says its automated scans of the Internet recently turned up malware on roughly 300,000 Web sites, double the number it recorded two years ago. Each site can contain many infected pages. Meanwhile, Malware doubled last year, to 240 million unique attacks, according to Symantec, a maker of security software. And that does not count the scourge of fake antivirus software and other scams.
So it is more important than ever to protect yourself. Here are some basic tips for thwarting them.
Protect the Browser
The most direct line of attack is the browser, said Vincent Weafer, vice president of Symantec Security Response. Online criminals can use programming flaws in browsers to get malware onto PCs in “drive-by” downloads without users ever noticing.
Internet Explorer and Firefox are the most targeted browsers because they are the most popular. If you use current versions, and download security updates as they become available, you can surf safely. But there can still be exposure between when a vulnerability is discovered and an update becomes available, so you will need up-to-date security software as well to try to block any attacks that may emerge, especially if you have a Windows PC.
It can help to use a more obscure browser like Chrome from Google, which also happens to be the newest browser on the market and, as such, includes some security advances that make attacks more difficult.
Get Adobe Updates
Most consumers are familiar with Adobe Reader, for PDF files, and Adobe’s Flash Player. In the last year, a virtual epidemic of attacks has exploited their flaws; almost half of all attacks now come hidden in PDF files, Mr. Weafer said. “No matter what browser you’re using,” he said, “you’re using the PDF Reader, you’re using the Adobe Flash Player.”
Part of the problem is that many computers run old, vulnerable versions. But as of April, it has become easier to get automatic updates from Adobe, if you follow certain steps.
To update Reader, open the application and then select “Help” and “Check for Updates” from the menu bar. Since April, Windows users have been able to choose to get future updates automatically without additional prompts by clicking “Edit” and “Preferences,” then choosing “Updater” from the list and selecting “Automatically install updates.” Mac users can arrange updates using a similar procedure, though Apple requires that they enter their password each time an update is installed.
Adobe said it did not make silent automatic updates available previously because many users, especially at companies, were averse to them. To get the latest version of Flash Player, visit Abobe’s Web site.
Any software can be vulnerable. Windows PC users can identify vulnerable or out-of-date software using Secunia PSI, a free tool that scans machines and alerts users to potential problems.
Beware Malicious Ads
An increasingly popular way to get attacks onto Web sites people trust is to slip them into advertisements, usually by duping small-time ad networks. Malvertising, as this practice is known, can exploit software vulnerabilities or dispatch deceptive pop-up messages.
A particularly popular swindle involves an alert that a virus was found on the computer, followed by urgent messages to buy software to remove it. Of course, there is no virus and the security software, known as scareware, is fake. It is a ploy to get credit card numbers and $40 or $50. Scareware accounts for half of all malware delivered in ads, up fivefold from a year ago, Google said.
Closing the pop-up or killing the browser will usually end the episode. But if you encounter this scam, check your PC with trusted security software or Microsoft’s free Malicious Software Removal Tool. If you have picked up something nasty, you are in good company; Microsoft cleaned scareware from 7.8 million PCs in the second half of 2009, up 47 percent from the 5.3 million in the first half, the company said.
Another tool that can defend against malvertising, among other Web threats, is K9 Web Protection, free from Blue Coat Systems. Though it is marketed as parental-control software, K9 can be configured to look only for security threats like malware, spyware and phishing attacks — and to bark each time it stops one.
Poisoned Search Results
Online criminals are also trying to manipulate search engines into placing malicious sites toward the top of results pages for popular keywords. According to a recent Google study, 60 percent of malicious sites that embed hot keywords try to distribute scareware to the computers of visitors.
Google and search engines like Microsoft’s Bing are working to detect malicious sites and remove them from their indexes. Free tools like McAfee’s SiteAdvisor and the Firefox add-on Web of Trust can also help — warning about potentially dangerous links.
Antisocial Media
Attackers also use e-mail, instant messaging, blog comments and social networks like Facebook and Twitter to induce people to visit their sites.
It’s best to accept “friend” requests only from people you know, and to guard your passwords. Phishers are trying to filch login information so they can infiltrate accounts, impersonate you to try to scam others out of money and gather personal information about you and your friends.
Also beware the Koobface worm, variants of which have been taking aim at users of Facebook and other social sites for more than a year. It typically promises a video of some kind and asks you to download a fake multimedia-player codec to view the video. If you do so, your PC is infected with malware that turns it into a zombie (making it part of a botnet, or group of computers, that can spew spam and malware across the Internet).
But most important, you need to keep your wits about you. Criminals are using increasingly sophisticated ploys, and your best defense on the Web may be a healthy level of suspicion.

GOP wins House seat in Obama's Hawaii home district

Posted by Ahmed on 8:25 AM
HONOLULU (AP) — Republicans scored a midterm election victory Saturday when Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou won a Democratic-held House seat in Hawaii in the district where President Obama grew up — the latest triumph for the GOP as it looks to take back control of Congress.
Djou's victory was a blow to Obama and other Democrats who could not rally around a candidate and find away to win a congressional race that should have been a cakewalk. The seat had been held by a Democrat for nearly 20 years and is located where Obama was born and spent most of his childhood.
"This is a momentous day. We have sent a message to the United States Congress. We have sent a message to the national Democrats. We have sent a message to the machine," Djou said. "The congressional seat is not owned by one political party. This congressional seat is owned by the people."
But Democrats believe the success in Hawaii will be short-lived. Djou will only serve through the remainder of 2010, and another election will be held in November for the next term.
Djou received 67,610 votes, or 39.4%. He was trailed by state Senate President Colleen Hanabusa, a Democrat who received 52,802 votes, or 30.8%. The other leading Democrat, former U.S. Rep. Ed Case, received 47,391 votes, or 27.6%.
Republicans see the victory as a powerful statement about their momentum heading into November. They already sent a Republican to the U.S. Senate to replace the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts— a place that was once thought to be the most hostile of territories for the GOP. Now Republicans can say they won a congressional seat in the former backyard of the president and in a state that gave Obama 72% of the vote two years ago.
"Charles' victory is evidence his conservative message of lowering the tax burden, job creation and government accountability knows no party lines. It is a message Americans want to hear from candidates across the country," said Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele.
Democrats are confident they can topple Djou in November because the vote won't be split among several candidates, as it was Saturday.
Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen said the fact that the Democratic candidates together received over 50% of the vote, "demonstrates that Democratic prospects are very good in November."
"This district is still, as stated, a Democratic district," Hanabusa said, pointing to the combined Democratic vote of 58%. "We're energized to start all over again."
Hanabusa said she intends to campaign in the September primary for the Democratic nomination to take on Djou in November. Case suggested to supporters he would seek the Democratic nomination in September. But when asked directly, he said all he planned to do Monday was "wake up, go body surfing and cut the lawn. We'll figure out the rest of it later."
"The people of Hawaii have give us a short-term lease with an option to buy in November," Djou said. "This is not the time for us to rest on our laurels. This is the time to redouble our efforts to bring out change. To do good, to restore our nation to prosperity."
The party was on at the Republican party headquarters in Honolulu. A band played Hawaiian music and hundreds of supporters hugged Djou, piling on a stack of floral lei around his neck. A whiteboard inside the office read, "Just Djou it!"
Djou, 39, enjoyed solid support from state and national Republicans and ran a disciplined campaign focused on taxes and government spending at a time when Hawaii's tourism-driven economy remains troubled, with the state facing a $1 billion deficit, large cuts to state programs and workers and an unemployment rate that has nearly doubled in the last three years.
In contrast, Democrats bickered over whether Case or Hanabusa was the strongest candidate for their party, and the situation got so bad that Obama and national party leaders weren't able to endorse one contender. Instead, they aired television ads and made automated telephone calls that asked voters to chose "a Democrat."
Djou will replace Democratic Rep. Neil Abercrombie, who resigned after 10 terms to run for governor.
Republican Gov. Linda Lingle said Djou's victory indicated that voters "are looking for people who aren't tied to special interests."
At one point, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee appeared ready to throw its support to Case. That was until Hawaii's influential senior senator, Democrat Daniel Inouye, made it clear Hanabusa was his choice. He has scorned Case since the then-congressman ran against Hawaii's other senator, Democrat Daniel Akaka, in the 2006 primary.
In contrast, Djou enjoyed solid support from local and national Republicans, who funneled money to his campaign but took a much lower profile than their Democratic counterparts.
He burnished his conservative bona fides during the campaign, making appearances at Hawaii's tea party protest and on Fox News Channel for an interview with host Sean Hannity.
His message was clear: Taxes are too high, the federal government has grown too large, and wasteful government spending hinders economic prosperity.
Djou, the son of immigrants from China and Thailand, joined the Army Reserve after Sept. 11 and obtained the rank of captain. He has an Ivy League education and a law degree, served in the state Legislature and worked as a law school professor.
Djou's next political challenge will be in the November general election, when he will face only one Democratic nominee. That candidate will be chosen in the September primary election.
Democrats have expressed certainty that Djou will not be able to repeat in November when he will face a single Democratic candidate in the left-leaning district.
The likely candidates for the party will again be Hanabusa and Case. Hanabusa is a fourth-generation American of Japanese ancestry whose grandparents worked on a plantation and were interned by the U.S. government during World War II. Case, 57, is the oldest of six children and the cousin of AOL co-founder Steve Case.
Djou will be the first Republican to represent Hawaii in Congress since Rep. Pat Saiki left office in 1991.
The election was being conducted entirely by mail. Eleven other candidates were on the ballot, but none of them had a serious chance of contending.
Final results showed that 54%, or 171,417, of the 317,337 ballots that were sent to voters were returned. It was a strong turnout compared to the 2002 special election to fill a vacancy in the 2nd Congressional District, when only 13% cast their votes.

Gunmen destroy Gaza children’s summer camp

Posted by Ahmed on 6:45 AM
Dozens of masked gunmen stormed a UN-run Gaza summer camp today and burnt it to the ground, threatening “harsh measures” against the Gaza director of the UN refugee agency.

The attackers assaulted a guard, tied him up and left a letter with four bullets threatening UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) Gaza director John Ging, according to agency spokesman Adnan Abu Hasna.

“The armed men torched the camp, which contained recreational equipment and (plastic) swimming pools, and completely destroyed it,” Abu Hasna said, adding that UNRWA had planned to open the camp in the middle of next month.

Abu Hasna said the gunmen blocked Gaza’s main coastal highway before destroying the facility, one of the largest of several summer camps across the territory catering to some 250,000 Palestinian refugee children.

No one claimed the attack but it appeared to have been carried out by Islamic extremists who have attacked Western symbols in Gaza in the past and are opposed to the camps because they allow boys and girls to mingle.

Mr Ging later told reporters that the attack was carried out by people with an “extremist mentality” and vowed to continue his agency’s work in Gaza.

“UNRWA will not be intimidated by these attacks. UNRWA will repair this location,” he said.
Gaza’s Hamas-run police force was investigating the incident, and interior ministry spokesman Ihab al-Ghussein said “the action is strongly condemned and those behind it will be held accountable.”
